Cape of Good Hope - the end!

Cape of Good Hope -  Kap der guten Hoffnung

The final destination: after nearly 17 months and 18'000 km our voyage ends at the most south-western point of Africa, the Cape of Good Hope, on 14 January 2013!!!!

2 very happy cyclists!!!

Western Cape - Little Karoo and the south coast

An endless sky, a semi-dessert in its spring blossoming and full of green and some very hot days!!! This is the "little Karoo", for us it's been very beautiful!  Later we cycle Tradouws Pass to the coast and reach the southernmost point of Africa (Agulhas), from there it is only a short stretch to Capetown...

The only day of the trip you don't empty your shoes in the morning before putting them on, is the day you will find something in it! Luckily no scorpion.
Coffee shop in Calitzdorp.
Same coffee shop
No clouds, it's a fire, which spreads over the whole mountain.

!!!
Fruit planters' valley! Thanks to Dan for the lovely hospitality, his trust in us and the delightful plums and abricots!

Tradouws pass

Tradouw pass, from north to south it's an utter delight.

Post Office in Swellendam.

Church of Swellendam: it is said that no one leaves town without taking a picture of the church!

That's not the one.

Southernmost tip of Africa: Cape Agulhas. Nowhere further south to go! Except Antarctica!! From here on it is only going up north (at least on the map).

After 25 km in 3 hours of headwind (advancing at a merely 8 km/h!) we give up for the day, put on all our warm clothes and find shelter in a barn. Back to camping!
Coffee or prison?

After a fire.
How can humans be so stupid?

Protea, the national flower of South Africa.

Mystic lake in the Leopardkloof .

Kajalitsha the "locations" / shack town with Table Mountain in the back. The income gap in SA is huge huge huge!
