Cairo - a glimpse

"Cairo is dangerous! Tahrir is dangerous! There is huge traffic! They drive like crazy! You are not going to Cairo with the current situation, are you?"

Our entrance to Cairo was a lot easier than we thought. We crossed the city to find our hotel in Zamalek, a very green island in the middle of Cairo.

Of course we visited Tahrir Square. We met very nice, warm and welcoming people and - let's call him Ahmad - took a lot of time to discuss many issues with us. He showed us around. He explained what the people wanted. He explained how the place was organized. We saw women talk openly with men. No heated but animated discussions. We were told which road were a no-go, since military was taking every one into custody who would wander into there. We were welcomed with open hearts, shukran to all of you who we are not going to name!

And then there was THE christmas tree to be found...
THE christmas tree!

Of course the pyramids were a MUST. Since Yann had missed them in 1982, and we missed them again in 2006, this was the time to visit.
Yann was very impressed and dragged Chantal into the heart of the Cheops pyramid. No place to be for a claustrophobic person! For an appropriate comment on the pyramids, see the pictures. ;-)
As millions of tourists before us, we have wondered how they could build such things so precisely! (we don't have the answer; just to make it clear! ;-))

Chantal: "Ich ha mer's grösser vorgstellt!"  ;-))

Further down there is the Sphinx. Quite small but still impressive. The day was coming to an end, so we concentrated on other things. Some girl gave us a big smile. Enjoy!
